Ripely colorful catalogue, with many smaller illustrations, 18 in all, of the product by itself and as applied to windows, doors, outdoor furniture umbrellas, etc. (We aren't counting the illustrations on the cover, and we count as one depictions of several of the various striped patterns when shown together. N.d., circa 1930s. 12mo. 18 by 9 cm. Unpaginated, 12 pages. The catalogue shows how what was a critical utilitarian product in the days before air conditioning also brought a festiveness to domestic life and even in its way helped define summer as a time of hedonistic indulgence. The products not only could mix colors boldly, but also had nice touches such as scalloped borders. We believe the catalogue was issued by the manufacturer, Otis, but was customized slightly for the distributor or retailer, whose name, A. V. Restorff, and contact info in Philadelphia, is printed on the rear cover. Light to moderate wear. Title: Awnings that Beautify. Otis Woven Stripes for Awnings.
