This is the first full investigation of Legio VI Victrix in Britain, tracing its story from its transfer from Germany in AD 122 to its disappearance with the end of Roman rule. Drawing on inscriptions, archaeology and literary sources, the author explores the legion’s organisation, warfare and auxiliary forces, while restoring its human dimension—from wall-building legionaries to figures such as Pertinax and Lucius Artorius Castus. Though occasionally repetitive and over-reliant on modern re-enactment, the work is well evidenced and informative. Overall, it offers a solid, thoughtful contribution to the study of the Roman army and Roman Britain.
