F COMPANY 8th BATTALION THE RIFLE BRIGADE

This is a Regimentally published title that covers an individual company of the Rifle Brigade, is compiled from memory, and is a day-to-day account of men of F Company in the heat of battle – taking part in the Normandy landings in June 1944 and the subsequent advance across North West Europe. A Roll of Honour, List of Wounded, H&A and – unusually – an Address list complete this excellent history. Written so shortly after the cessation of hostilities, this account has an immediacy that modern histories lack. F Company, along with G and H Companies, were mobile infantry companies (or ‘motor companies’) with a strength of 175 officers and men each. Each company consisted of one scout (reconnaissance) platoon (in Bren Carriers) and three mobile infantry platoons (using International Harvester half-tracks).
