Folio, 30.5 by 25.5 cm. 55 pp. Lush color illustrations on the vast majority of pages. In the introductory text, it is asserted that "[This], we believe, is the first book ever devoted to the bathroom as a subject of interior decoration. The new ideas it presents are the result of the coordinated efforts of architects, interior decorators, artists, designers, and those master craftsmen . . . " And it asks "Why shouldn't the bathroom be given as much consideration as an interior as other rooms in the home?" Whether true, the assertion is plausible and does contain some truth, as the bathroom as we know it didn't come into existence until the latter part of the nineteenth century, and then, the term, "water closet", pretty much describes the earlier incarnations of the bathroom. 42 of the pages are dominated by color illustration. The general pattern is a color for the company's porcelain fixtures is introduced with a small vignette on a page otherwise blank. The next page shows a larger illustration, approximately two thirds of a page, of a fixture done in that color -- mostly sinks, but also a bathtub. The next page is dominated by a wider, half page, illustration of the fuller room, showing a sink, toilet, bathtub and all the other pieces that make for a splendid luxurious bathroom. Finally comes a page with a color chart, detailing all the colors in the bathroom and not just of the porcelain fixtures produced by the company, and below this, a variant on the room is depicted, with a different mix of colors. In all their are nine of these color themed sections. And the variety of bathroom decor is really quite impressive, while all do nonetheless fit into our conception of Art Deco, and all are, incidentally, quite lavish. The remarkable thing, most would probably agree, is that these interiors have aged well, for all are bathrooms that still look great, and might for most qualify as aspiration in their panache, size, elegance, comfort. In the back, there is an additional color plate showing a wide variety of faucets, and three other pages of richly colored illustration, including another color chart plate. Light wear.
